Comrades On Wheels Clermont Rides

March 11, 2019 - March 13, 2019

Two riders on black Trikkes on a paved trail in Florida

Three Days of Rides in Central Florida:

Trikkes, Me-Movers, bikes, Halfbikes (if you dare!), roller blades, whatever you want to roll on, let’s get together in Clermont, Florida for a few days of friends, hills, and thrills! If you are seeing this, you are invited!

Our rides are organized so that we all will have the most fun, no matter what our skill/endurance levels are. All of the morning rides have shorter options for anyone that doesn’t want to overdo it by pushing themselves too far. All of the rides have at least moderate hills but it’s fine if anyone wants to walk their ride up; we’re riding as a group so we’ll all meet at the top anyway. For the downhill thrills, please be sure you have the needed skills and capability if you decide to bomb down.

I chose lunch locations on day 1 and day 3; other than that there are suggestions for lunch on day 2, as well as all of the evening meals that the group will decide on. These suggestions all have something that everyone can eat and enjoy, no matter what their tastes are.

Below are the daily ride summaries. Click the link for each ride for detailed information including ride description, trail link, parking locations, and meal options.

Day 1:

Day 1 morning ride is on the Seminole Wekiva Trail. It is about a 45 minute drive from Clermont. I put it on day 1 in case anyone is flying into Orlando and wants to stay nearby for one evening so they don’t have to backtrack. Search hotels in Altamonte Springs if you want to do this, or you could stay in Orlando for the first night. I will probably be staying at a hotel that is about 8 miles from downtown Clermont. I’ve stayed there twice already and like it. There are several more hotels to choose from that are closer to all the action such as Fairfield Inn & Suites, Holiday Inn Express, Hampton Inn & Suites, etc. Search for hotels in Clermont and you’ll see plenty. After lunch is an optional ride on the Hancock Trail.

Day 2:

Day 2 morning ride is on the West Orange Trail. You can ride anywhere from 5 to 18 miles. I did this trail a few years ago, it’s a fun ride with lots of shade, and only moderate hills at best. After lunch is an optional ride on Sugarloaf Mountain.

Day 3:

Day 3 ride is on the South Lake & Minneola Scenic Trail. There is plenty of beautiful scenery to see! For anyone who wants to ride the trail from end to end, there are some pretty steep hills a little after the halfway point. This will be the final ride but if anyone wants to head out the following day and wants to squeeze in a little more fun, we’ll choose a spot.

A few final notes:

  • Helmets, gloves, and protective gear are highly recommended.
  • Kilarney Station Trailhead will be the end point for both day 2 and day 3.
  • Please bring extra tubes in case you have a flat. We will be able to change it quickly for you so we can all get underway again.
  • If anyone wants to extend their fun after day 3, we have the option of driving 4 hours south to the Hollywood/Fort Lauderdale area where there are many beautiful areas to ride.
